A Dry Down Housekeeping Update
Good Morning Delicious-Smelling Readers,
Just a little Dry Down housekeeping update as we look toward the end of the year. We hope you’re all smelling new and weird and exciting things and staying cozy in your best sweaters as it finally gets cold outside (at least here in New York City). We wanted to share with you all some of our thoughts about the letter etc, and we wanted to do it before the end of the year. So here goes!
First of all, Perfume Genies: For those of you who very generously chose to subscribe to the yearly option, we know we’ve promised personalized perfume genies, and we know that some of you have been awaiting yours for a very long time. We had a unexpected volume of response to our initial launch on Substack, and, while that was a great thing, we consequently fell behind on the perfume genies, as we are personalizing each one and writing more detailed notes than we thought to each person! But we want to reassure you that we are still working on them, and that everyone who has subscribed so far will have their personalized perfume genie response by the end of November. If you want to change yours due to the time that’s passed since you first sent it, or want different recommendation than you initially requested for any reason, please just email us at thedrydownletter@gmail.com and we’ll make sure to honor your request. If you don’t remember your survey answers, don’t worry -- we send those surveys back to you when you get your genie. If you signed up but never filled out a survey or received an invite to the Google form, email us also and we will get you the form.
Similarly, we know we haven’t been sending Dry Down updates at the volume we initially promised - both our schedules are busy, and we may have been overly ambitious in promising six letters a month. However, we plan to keep up with that rate between now and the end of the year. We will also be sending out to all our subscribers the comprehensive, subscriber-only Beginner’s Guide to Perfume we have written (it’s long and a labor of love!) before the end of the year.
Which brings us to the issue of subscriptions. We love doing the Dry Down, and we love being on Substack, but we also have started having conversations about other directions we might want to take the project in - whether we want to do more events in other cities, more partnerships and salons, or more free newsletters that are longer and more substantial, and we are trying to devise a plan to realistically keep this wonderful perfume community going while also managing our own schedules. For these reasons, we’ve decided to cap yearly subscriptions at the end of 2018. Monthly subscriptions will continue to be available, but capping yearly subscriptions gives us the option to consider the shape of this project after 2019, and decide in what direction it makes sense to move with it next. So, if you or a friend have been considering a yearly subscription, you’ll want to do that before 2019 (but monthly ones will continue to be available, so it’s not too urgent unless you really want the yearly; monthly subs will still come with 6 letters a month, diaries, and discounts).
Finally, just a reminder that our Fall Juice Box with Twisted Lily, a collection of nine perfume samples offering a new take on fall scents, drops tomorrow. The Fall Juice Box is $30, with a 10% code plus free shipping for subscribers, and comes with a coupon for 20% off any full bottle of one of the scents included. We’re extremely excited about this collaboration, and we can’t wait to discuss all of the scents with you in the Dry Down Slack (which, if you need an invite to the Slack, please just email us - it’s a wonderful community of perfume lovers and scent discussions).
Much love and good smells,
R + H
